A targeted topical formula for cold sore support - built around herbs and nutrients with well-established mechanisms against the herpes simplex virus.

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) - the most studied topical herb for herpes simplex. Multiple randomised controlled trials, including a study published in Phytomedicine, found that topical lemon balm cream significantly reduced healing time and symptom severity compared to placebo, and reduced recurrence frequency with consistent use.

Garlic - allicin has documented antiviral activity. In vitro research has confirmed activity against herpes simplex specifically.

Goldenseal - berberine-containing and antimicrobial. Supports the local immune response and helps create an inhospitable environment for viral replication at the surface.

Skullcap - antiviral and anti-inflammatory. Research has identified skullcap flavonoids with direct activity against herpes simplex in laboratory studies.

Lysine - the amino acid that competes with arginine for cellular uptake, directly inhibiting herpes simplex replication. Typically used orally, but included here for topical reinforcement at the site.

Spearmint - antimicrobial and soothing. Helps with local discomfort while other ingredients do the heavier work.

Beeswax - the base. Keeps the formula in contact with the skin and slows absorption, maximising dwell time at the site.
